Water Tank Size Guide

Not sure which tank size to choose? This simple guide helps you compare water tank sizes and prices for your situation.

1. Think about how much water you use

Start with your daily water use. A small household may manage with 1,000L–3,000L, while a larger family or a home with a garden may prefer 4,000L–6,000L. The more people and uses (washing, cleaning, irrigation), the more storage you need.

2. Match the tank to the use

  • Household use: 1,000L–6,000L tanks are common for home backup water and rainwater harvesting.
  • Farm use: 8,000L–24,000L tanks suit livestock watering, irrigation support and general farm storage.
  • Commercial use: shops, schools, rental properties and institutions often choose 5,000L and above, depending on demand.

3. Consider your space

Larger tanks need more ground space and a firm, level base. Measure the area where the tank will sit before you order, and tell us about your site when you contact the shop.

4. Compare prices by size

Bigger tanks cost more upfront but store more water per shilling. See our water tank prices page to compare capacities and prices side by side.

5. Still not sure? Ask us

Tell us how many people will use the water, what it's for, and how much space you have — we'll help you compare suitable sizes before you order.
